Pieces of Silver

PIECES OF SILVER by Maureen Lang

For Liesel Bonner, the path to love is strewn with lies, deceit, and treachery.
Faced with the awful truth about her longtime friend and confidant, Liesel is forced to choose between protecting and betraying him. How could she have been so blind to his charade?
Oblivious to her distress, the intriguing and handsome federal agent, David de Serre, complicates matters even more when he insists that Liesel choose where her loyalties truly lie.
Just as everything in her life seems to be falling apart, and her trust in those she loves most is faltering, she turns to God for help, finding peace and protection in some unexpected places. In this thrilling tale of threats, betrayal, and love, Liesel is torn between her commitment to her faith, her loyalty to her country, and her desire for love.

Awesome book. I just have to say first off, it has a gorgeous cover, kind of an old fabric look.
The story itself is fascinating. Delightfully written, it grabs hold of you before you know it. Engaging and lively characters steal your heart (I loved Liesel and David especially and their interaction together). The suspenese sometimes simmers just below the surface, and sometimes you can feel your heart beating as you race along, not daring to miss a minute. Liesel had a great family, one I'd love to be a part of. Most of all, I appreciated the realness of the growth of the characters and the attraction between David and Liesel. (I'm really trying not to give away any spoilers.

The tale is set in the time of the Great War and it is so real it puts you there. You know what the ration is like, you understand the unrest and distrust. Maureen has done a wonderful job of weaving fiction with historical fact in a manner that doesn't know the meaning of dry or boring.

This book is for you if you like historicals, or just enjoy a poignant story with heart and meaning, regardless of the time period.
